Find a Specialist Certified in Lifestyle Medicine-

Leverage the resources below to find yourself a physician, registered dietitian, health coach and more who are board certified in Lifestyle Medicine.
At a minimum, I recommend your Primary Care Physician be Lifestyle certified, since they are typically your first point of contact when you are seeking/receiving care.

The Lifestyle Medicine Specialty

Lifestyle Medicine is an additional credential that is put on top of the foundational ABMS/AOA credentials already earned.

Examples:  1. Someone who becomes a family practice doctor can then study and earn the Lifestyle Medicine credential.
2. A gastroenterologist can go deeper into the subject by studying and earning the Lifestyle Medicine credential.

To become certified, physicians must hold a primary board certification from an ABMS- or AOA-approved board for at least two years to then become eligible for the Lifestyle Medicine training.  Once the training is complete, they must then pass an exam written to National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) standards, demonstrating leadership and mastery in the science of treating, reversing, and preventing chronic diseases.   Upon passing the exam they earn the title - Diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (DipABLM).

Your Doctor

There's a good chance your doctor may not be aware of the Lifestyle Medicine specialty, or doesn't apply Lifestyle Medicine principles into their thinking/diagnosis/solution planning when working with you.

Make sure you understand why this is happening, and why partnering with a physician who has become a Diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (DipABLM) is a good strategy to have.

You can sometimes do a search using the words “Physician Lifestyle Medicine <name of your town/city>” and find resources.  Worth a try!

If you can’t find someone trained as a Lifestyle physician, the next best thing is a physician who is vegan, because they are open to the idea of the plant-based lifestyle.  So search on the words “Vegan physician <name of your town/city>” and see what you get.

Leverage your social media connections.  Create a post asking your community who they might know that is trained/certified in Lifestyle Medicine and/or recognizes the power of food in wellbeing outcomes.
