The Power of Food to Heal!

The Healing Kitchen is a comprehensive program offered to the community surrounding Brevard, North Carolina. Participants gain knowledge about the power of food to heal us from chronic disease / contribute to optimal wellbeing, and develop the practical skills necessary to live a plant-based lifestyle sustainably.

There are five components:

1. Two-hour introductory exploration of Lifestyle Medicine and plant-based eating.

Sessions are offered throughout the year either at the Transylvania Library in Brevard or online via Zoom.

In addition, anyone can request a session for themselves or their own group, and are welcome to do so HERE

2. Cooking classes - 6 weekly sessions:

- Week 1:  Benefits of the Plant-Based diet

- Week 2:  Beans

- Week 3:  Greens

- Week 4: Grains

- Week 5: Fruits and Vegetables

- Week 6: Protein
These cooking classes are offered four times per year (2 sessions in the Spring (March - May), 2 sessions in the Fall (September - November).  Participants get hands on in the kitchen preparing various dishes, sharing the meal and hearing one of the facilitators provide deeper insight into the topic of the day.

3. Online, Self-Paced Guide
Living the plant-based lifestyle is more than just putting more plants on your plate.  It takes a deeper dive to learn the nuances of the lifestyle in order to make this way of life sustainable.  After completing the cooking classes, participants dive deeper into the subject leveraging a 10-module online self-paced guide.

4. Support of a Health Coach

If needed, while working through the self-paced guide, participants can also leverage the support of an AMA board certified Health Coach, via three, private 1 hour discussions.

5.  Monthly potlucks.
We practice preparing a plant-based dish, join to share a meal and build a supportive, healing community.
ALL are welcome, not just participants in the program, so bring family members, friends, neighbors, out of town guests!

Beginners to this lifestyle: bring something simple like a fruit salad, baked sweet potatoes, a loaf of artisan bread or steamed vegetables.

Potlucks happen on the third Thursday of each month, 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Lutheran Church of the Good Shephard, 22 Fisher Road, Brevard, NC, 28712.

All of this is FREE!
To join our community and stay up to speed on happenings, you can find the Healing Kitchen on Facebook, HERE
